Now, I've had a similar problem installing Apricity OS. I chose the option to proceed into Solus to try it, but it just went into a blank screen and the monitor eventually turned off.
The same thing actually happened with Apricity. I noticed that this didn't actually happen only when I used an Ubuntu based distro. My friend suggested that I disable secure boot or look for an option to use legacy boot. After looking in my motherboard manual, I found an option to use legacy boot, but still doesn't work, same issue occurs.Solus is a nicely themed linux distro.
I particularly liked the Budgie desktop, which comes from the Solus team. While it would not be my preferred distro, it is still disappointing that Solus does not seem to handle booting well. But, for now, I will just be describing my tests. So this section of my report will be short. I started by installing Ubuntu I assigned a 30G virtual disk.Jane osborne ft danny mp3
But I told it to not delete the virtual disk that I had created. Next, I started a virtual install of Solus 3. And, for a virtual disk, I told it to use the disk space from my Ubuntu install. The Solus installer seemed to recognize that Ubuntu For partitioning, I went with the option to manually select a partition to be used for the install. I exited the installer.
Somehow, the virtual machine terminated at that point. But I was able to resume where it left off in the live Solus system. I restarted the installer. The install completed without further problems, and suggested that I reboot. And, on reboot, it booted into Solus. Booting used grub really grub2and the menu included an option to boot Ubuntu. I was able to boot into both Solus and Ubuntu.
Once in Ubuntu, I updated its grub menu, and that added a line to boot into Solus. So it looked as if booting would not be a problem for this system with traditional BIOS booting. If I preferred, I could reinstall grub in Ubuntu, and that should give me a boot entry line for booting into Solus. I started the same way. I did a virtual install of Ubuntu Following the Ubuntu install, I rebooted into the installed system. And all seemed to be well.
Next, I shutdown Ubuntu. Restarting the virtual machine, I went into UiApp. That gave me several boot options. And, booting that took me into the Solus live system, where I started the installer. And after a little time, I was prompted to reboot. And the virtual machine rebooted into Ubuntu.Alongside these options, we also provide the ability to use full-disk encryption.
For the obvious reason of it being full-disk, this assumes you are installing Solus onto the entire drive. This is not necessary if you are enabling Solus to install onto the entire disk. Next, right-click on the partition and click Manage Flags. On the Manage Flags section, enable the boot and esp flags. Help Center Get answers to common questions No results found.
Disks Solus provides multiple ways you can install onto your system. Solus can take up the entire drive, using traditonal root partitions, or with LVM-managed root partitions. You can install Solus next to your existing operating system, such as Windows. If you have multiple operating systems installed, we will choose the largest option. You can manually configure your system.
Note that if you manually configure your system, you will need to restart the Installer for those changes to apply appropriately. Secure Boot needs to be disabled. Your disk is required to be GPT formatted.GitHub is home to over 40 million developers working together to host and review code, manage projects, and build software together. After selecting solus it's just a blank screen. Nothing else. No output or anything like that. Tried installing it in dell xps 13 developer edition, version.Maferefun yemaya
CPU: Core iU 2. Exact same issue. Solus wont go Live, and since there is no installer option I'm pretty much stuck. This seems to be the issue, but I cant get around it myself. FreddyFernando the Wiki article you link to is not the issue at all, that is only for installing. It is basically down to syslinux the iso boot loader for EFI ; do this:.
It will most likely be booting but previously without console output; with the options above it forces output to the console. Speed of booting is another question altogether. Closing issue as this pertains to the USB3 issue in Solus 1.

I have heard many great things about Solus, and seeing how it is the rising star of Distrowatch, and how its Budgie desktop is one of the only ones not to have screen tearing, I am eager to give it a spin.
But wouldn't you know, its the one distro that just won't live boot on my computer.
I even went back and tried it as an ISO image, as I do with all the other distros. But Solus just won't boot up.
After the Solus logo countdown page, the screen goes black, and "Unable to get SMM Dell signature" pops up briefly in text, then back to black with a flashing curser. And there it just stays. Does anyone have any suggestions for me to try before I move on and cross Solus off my list? Thanks for your help in advance. It is a nice Linux OS. Last edited by beachboy2; at PM. I'll check out those links. I think that your Dell may only only capable of running a 32 bit OS. Solus is now 64 bit only.
Yes, it is 64 bit. I think that didn't start until Windows 7 or 8. Seems it has a history of being a problem. Not a solution, but perhaps a start towards finding one. Perhaps a simpler answer would be to try Budgie with something else, like Ubuntu Budgie or even Archman.Shipping with Linux Kernel 4. The aim of this guide is to help people who may face problem installing Solus on an EFI-capable computer but also the " advanced " users who have already installed flawlessly of other distributions and don't even take a minute to check the documentation because they are too smart and it has to be the distribution that is broken.
It's not meant to be exhaustive but rather to cover the most common situations. Of course it can be completed and contributions are welcome! Before starting, let me drop a line about a common problem and the importance to read documentation : Solus uses hybrid formats for its ISOs, not every tool can handle such formats properly, so it is important to check the supported methods to get a working ISO.
Modern computers can boot either in UEFI a. Only the first method will be covered by this guide. The firmware UI differs from vendor to vendor, so don't worry if it looks different on your computer than on this illustration.
Important : Before booting the ISO for the first time, you may want to get into the computer's firmware to. You can now boot the Solus ISO of your choice. Please reboot and make sure to select the UEFI entry in the menu. Note : You can press e to append kernel parameters when the ISO starts booting. You normally don't need this unless you have some specific hardware but this goes far beyond the objective of this guide.
If you want to install Solus alongside another already installed operating system, you should have a look at the EFI system partitions a. ESP paragraph of the Advanced installation section. Okay so now you're on the desktop of your choice you can run Install OS.
If you want to perform an automatic installation, you can click it now and follow the instructions, remove the disk from the drive at the end of the installation and reboot.
Warning : These operations are potentially dangerous and may result in data loss. Be very cautious and take backups of your important data before going further.
If there are multiple disks on your machine make sure to select the good one on the right in the gparted toolbar. If instead you want to perform a more advanced setup, like partitioning your disks your own way, first run gparted from the live ISO unlike many installers, Solus doesn't handle manual partitioning during installation so you have to prepare it upfront.
If not yet done, you'll have to create a new partition table, forget about msdos this is for legacy boot, you have to create a gpt partition table.
Although it is possible to create multiple ESPs, I highly not recommend to do so. Also make sure the partition is large enough as this is a common source of problems.
If another OS is already installed on the disk, you should consider rezising the partition before going further typically Windows creates a Mb ESP partition. The ESP partition is usually the first partition on the disk. It must be fat32 formatted and have the boot and esp flags. Solus recommands Mb for this partition.
This is very important if you install multiple operating systems or if you install multiple kernels typically the current and the lts kernels. If you have no clue what current and lts kernels are, you shouldn't worry about this. Apart from assigning the mount points to the partitions you have prepared, an important thing that may annoy you if you have multiple ESP partitions is that Solus installer like most other linux installers available todaywill automatically install its bootloader on the first ESP partition.
